You did great on the colors, I like how he stands out from the background so that it draws the eyes to him first. Though, I see what you mean about cartoon'ish background. Yeah, you and I seem to have the same problem. ^_^;;; But that's okay I think, just gives us something to practice on when we are bored. ^_~

Anyways, great work as always, but his back seems a bit odd. I think you could successfully move the curve up a bit, and make his waist a bit thicker. Oh, and... Guys -do- have hips too
